[Tech Stock Liquidation Amplifies Volatility, Some Fund Strategies Nearly Wiped Out for the Year]
Odaily Planet Daily reports that the continued decline in global tech stocks is pushing the hedge fund industry into a new round of adjustment. With a sharp reversal in AI-related trading, the global tech stock sell-off has severely impacted hedge funds, with some strategies nearly wiping out their year-to-date returns. Several large funds have begun reducing leverage and laying off investment teams, with market concerns that concentrated liquidations will further amplify volatility.
Goldman Sachs data shows that equity long-short strategies primarily investing in tech stocks suffered a single-day loss of over 4% on Thursday, bringing the year-to-date returns of these strategies to near zero. In June of this year, these funds had accumulated a return as high as 24%.
These losses are not limited to tech investment strategies. Goldman Sachs data shows that global fundamental equity long-short strategies fell by an average of 1.3% on Thursday, while multi-strategy funds fell by 1.4%, reflecting that selling pressure is spreading to a wider range of portfolios.
