The desktop version is designed for more complex video editing projects that benefit from a larger screen, mouse, and keyboard, the company stated. This move puts Edits in more direct competition with CapCut, a tool extremely popular with creators and available on Windows and Mac desktops since 2021. Instagram notes that the desktop application includes licensed and royalty-free music, sound, and video effects, as well as automatic captions in multiple languages. Audio and text styles saved by creators on the mobile app will be synced to the desktop application, and users can customize keyboard shortcuts or import from other editing software.
