[South Korean Deputy Prime Minister: Data Center Construction Should Not Be Slowed Down Due to Concerns about US AI Investment] According to Yonhap News Agency, South Korean Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science and ICT Bae Kyung-hoon stated on November 6th that despite rising concerns about stricter regulations and slower investment in AI data centers following the US midterm elections, South Korea should not allow current market sentiment to influence its AI infrastructure investment to halt or postpone.
Bae Kyung-hoon pointed out that even if US investment slows, countries like China, France, and Canada may still seize the opportunity to increase their investment, and global AI competition will not easily cool down. He believes that the AI market may experience sharp fluctuations in the short term due to uncertainty, but it is expected to maintain long-term growth.
Furthermore, the South Korean government is researching and developing ultra-large-scale cutting-edge AI projects, 10 to 20 times the scale of existing domestic AI basic model projects, and discussing the establishment of a national cybersecurity coordination mechanism covering the public, private, and military sectors.
