[Man Sues OpenAI: ChatGPT Allegedly Taught Wife How to Poison Herself] According to Jinse Finance, a lawsuit filed this week alleges that ChatGPT gradually generated a "personalized plan" over several months to help Cheryl Gates, a woman from North Carolina, plot to poison her husband, James Gates. James Gates also accused OpenAI and its CEO, Sam Altman, of failing to implement sufficient technical safeguards to prevent the conversations. A grand jury indicted Cheryl Gates in October on charges including attempted first-degree murder and food contamination. The lawsuit was filed in San Francisco County Superior Court about a week before the indictment and was made public this week. The lawsuit claims that ChatGPT failed to close the conversation after Cheryl Gates' questions became "clearly suspicious," instead providing advice on how to carry out and cover up the murder. OpenAI stated that security is a top priority and has banned the user and provided information to law enforcement.
