[Analysis: It's Too Early to Determine if a Bear Market Has Begun After the US Stock Market Plunge]
According to a commentary by Charlene Chanana, Chief Investment Strategist at Saxo Bank, following Wall Street's sharp overnight decline, it's premature to conclude that the market has entered a bear market. She pointed out that such market drops often reflect investor panic, forced liquidation, and deteriorating market sentiment. While the sell-off has spread to a wider market, the current impact is primarily concentrated on factors such as the artificial intelligence investment cycle, regulatory uncertainty, and over-concentration of holdings.
More importantly, it's worth noting whether the market weakness will further spread to corporate earnings, credit conditions, employment, and economic growth. However, extreme sell-offs could also create conditions for a market rebound. She added, "Once the selling pressure eases, the market could rebound quickly, sometimes even before economic data shows significant improvement."
