[Bank of America Securities: Continued Oil Price Increases Could Drive Interest Rates Higher] BlockBeats reported on November 6th that Bank of America Securities stated in a research report that further increases in crude oil and refined product prices over the next three to six months could lead to "significantly higher interest rates." The US two-year nominal interest rate swap, reflecting market expectations for interest rates over the next two years, has risen 113 basis points year-to-date. However, Bank of America noted that on trading days with rising oil prices, the rate cumulatively rose by 196 basis points; on other trading days, it cumulatively fell by 83 basis points. Interest rate volatility was even more pronounced in the UK and Germany. Bank of America believes that if energy inflation rises, the Federal Reserve may face fewer constraints when considering interest rate hikes. This is because US economic growth and consumer spending are resilient, and the labor market is relatively tight.
