Frankly speaking, what crypto users have in abundance right now is trading opportunities; what's most easily overlooked are the stablecoins lying dormant in their accounts. Especially USDC. When the market is good, everyone's busy trading contracts, chasing trends, and seeking alpha; when the market is bad, they tend to leave their funds in wallets waiting for opportunities. But here's the question: besides waiting, isn't there a better way to manage idle funds? Traditional finance has long had money market funds and cash management tools. The familiar Yu'ebao (Alipay's money market fund) essentially allows temporarily unused money to generate some returns. I've always thought the concept of an on-chain Yu'ebao is quite good. Many exchanges are now starting to implement on-chain interest-bearing mechanisms for idle assets, allowing users to improve capital utilization without frequent trading. This reflects a trend: crypto is gradually shifting from simply pursuing trading opportunities to managing the overall efficiency of asset utilization. Crypto also needs something similar. I recently saw TopNod Wallet and Axil launch APT Vault, which focuses on on-chain fund management around idle USDC. Currently, the product targets an APY of approximately 8%, with an initial cap of $10 million, and offers T+0 and T+7 liquidity arrangements. There are several points worth noting: First, capital efficiency. In the past, many users kept USDC in their wallets primarily to wait for trading opportunities. If idle funds can generate potential returns without active trading, it certainly improves capital utilization. Second, the source of returns. An 8% APY seems good, but I think the real focus shouldn't be on the number itself, but rather where the returns actually come from. What are the underlying assets? Is the return sustainable? Will credit risk and market cycles affect the returns? These are the key factors in judging product quality. Third, liquidity and risk. T+0 and T+7 are not the same thing. Users need to understand the redemption rules for different share amounts, the arrival time, and whether there are liquidity constraints in extreme market conditions. Another point must be emphasized: on-chain products are not without risk. Smart contract, underlying asset, counterparty, and operational risks all need to be considered. I've always felt that the next stage of crypto shouldn't be limited to trading and speculation. As stablecoins gradually become a crucial infrastructure for on-chain finance, how to manage idle funds and improve capital efficiency will be a direction worth long-term attention. TopNod × Axil APT Vault is an example of this direction. Whether it can become a crypto version of Yu'ebao (a popular Chinese money market fund) is too early to say, but I hope this direction can truly succeed. After all, if in the future wallets are not only the entry point for storing and trading coins, but also the entry point for users to manage assets, then the on-chain cash management track does have enormous potential. Making money is one thing; keeping the money in your account active is another.
