[Perplexity Launches AI Teammates: 10,000 Already, 20 Times the Number of Human Employees] Beating AI News: Perplexity has officially launched Teammates, allowing AI agents to be responsible for specific tasks on a long-term basis, much like employees. CEO Aravind Srinivas revealed that the company created approximately 10,000 AI Teammates in the past 30 days, 20 times the total number of human employees.
Teammates are built on Perplexity Computer. Users simply assign roles, goals, and permissions to the AI, which then continuously tracks work progress, proactively identifies problems, and calls upon tools to handle them. Multiple Teammates can also divide tasks and connect with human colleagues via Slack.
For example, a sales agent can automatically investigate the reasons for a customer's prolonged absence from placing an order and prepare follow-up solutions. A development agent, after discovering a website bug, can delegate the task to another agent to write the fix. Each agent has an independent working environment, retaining project memories and task history. Users can check progress, adjust direction, or take over operations at any time.
This product has actually been in development for some time. Business Insider first revealed Perplexity's internal Teammate tool in July, initially focusing on software engineering tasks such as bug fixing and system monitoring. Now, it has expanded to include marketing, sales, customer service, and operations, adding long-term task management and cross-agent collaboration.
Teammates is currently available as a research preview to Max subscribers paying $200 per month, initially supporting a web interface, with native mobile and desktop versions to follow. [Original Link]
