[AI Stock Market Experiences Epic Crash, "Stock Gurus" Suffer Significant Profit Losses; Leopold's September Options Purchases May Be Nearly Worthless]
BlockBeats reports on November 6th that, following yesterday's epic correction in the US AI sector, a group of previously highly profitable "stock gurus" faced their final test.
According to a previous CNBC report citing sources, "AI stock guru" Leopold's Situational Awareness platform re-entered the options market in mid-September, repurchasing options on AMD (AMD), Bloom Energy (BE), CoreWeave (CREV), SK Hynix (SKHY), SanDisk (SNDK), and the DRAM ETF (DRAM).
Community leaks indicate that Situational Awareness's holdings are primarily composed of call spreads, i.e., buying options with a lower strike price and selling options with a higher strike price, with a total premium of approximately $315 million. Comparing price movements, if his holdings remained unchanged during this period, the current market value of these positions is likely to have very little residual time value (expiring in January, assuming January 2027, approximately two months from now), far insufficient to cover the $315 million premium already paid.
Furthermore, Serenity, another prominent figure known for investing in AI stocks, also announced significant losses in late October. According to screenshots of his tweets, as of October 22, his personal account had suffered a substantial drawdown, with a single-period loss of approximately $13.58 million.
He has not updated his profit and loss situation since then, but based on Serenity's continued public mentions and discussions in his latest tweets, it is expected that his holdings still mainly include upstream "bottleneck" companies in the AI hardware sector, such as LITE, AAOI, MRVL, SIVE, COHR, and NVDA. These stocks generally fell by 10-22% during the AI stock correction from late October to early November.
