[US Stock Market Crash May Be Due to Hedge Fund Liquidations; Market Expects Multiple Funds Undergoing Complete Liquidation] BlockBeats reports on November 6th that, regarding yesterday's US stock market crash, most Wall Street traders and analysts believe the main reason is not a deterioration in fundamentals, but rather the liquidation of hedge funds. Noel Smith, co-chief investment officer of Kai Asset Management, stated, "A drop of this magnitude without major market news is extremely rare. This smells like a liquidation." Besides the Bloomberg report last night that multi-strategy hedge fund Walleye Capital would streamline its internal long and short equity operations, the market widely expects several funds to be undergoing complete liquidation, or that "pods" (independent investment teams) within multi-strategy funds are being forced to liquidate/unwind their positions. Furthermore, a list released this morning by the well-known financial research community Special Situations shows that several hedge funds are facing difficulties, including Axebrook, Walleye, Engineers Gate, Lone Pine, Millennium's internal pod, Verition's pod, and Samlyn, mainly involving large-scale redemptions, closing internal teams, or replacing project managers. It's worth mentioning that during the major turmoil in the US stock market in July of this year, the AI hedge fund Situational Awareness also encountered a similar event, with its assets shrinking by 67%. Subsequently, it reached an emergency exit deal with Citadel, selling most of its publicly traded stock holdings at a discount.
