As a hardcore anime and K-pop fan, honestly, after following anime and K-pop for so many years, I've always had a painful feeling: we, the most devoted fans, spend money on merchandise, chart rankings, and fan creations, helping to gradually make the IP popular, only to see the investors and middlemen profit. Creators want to make a second season, but they have to scramble for sponsorships. What can we do? Just spam "I'll definitely watch it" in the comments.
Recently, @soneium announced a major upgrade, which I found quite interesting and worth discussing. Besides announcing plans for its native token, SONEIUM, they also placed "on-chain entertainment economy" and "IP tokenization" at the core. Simply put, it allows fans to directly invest in their favorite IPs, just like early shareholders.
Let's break it down:
First, how do fans participate?
Imagine if *Demon Slayer* had issued IP tokens early on:
• Collectible Tokens: A token of long-time fandom, unlocking exclusive events and allowing participation in fan creations.
• Streaming Tokens: A portion of the profits from future merchandise, anime productions, and licensing sales would be automatically transferred to your wallet via smart contracts.
The first example is Moriusa (@moriusa_STPR), a hit IP from Japan's top entertainment group Super State Holdings. They also plan to put K-pop artist concert royalties on the blockchain, in partnership with DayOneDream.
I previously bought a Moriusa token and will continue to follow it. It's a Japanese character IP that's continuously evolving in both Web2 and Web3. The choice of Soneium is related to the shared goals of both parties: Soneium aims to connect IPs, creators, and fans, while Moriusa hopes to expand into more scenarios and provide more ways for the community to participate. For fans who love a character and want to see it grow, this combination feels natural.
In the next couple of days, both parties have an event worth noting: Moriusa will be selling 50 "Soneium Edition" tokens on the Soneium Portal on November 12th, each priced at 0.25 ETH (significantly lower than the current secondary market price). These 50 tokens are all existing NFTs purchased from the secondary market, not newly issued tokens. Holders will be eligible for future Soneium rewards; details will be available in their official announcements.
You can participate in the whitelist event here : https://fz9yr1hrjv9.(typeform.com)/to/KhOfnKaa region=xxxxx
Event details
- Holding more than $50 worth of Soneium on-chain assets in your EOA wallet = 2 raffle tickets
- Holding more than $50 in USDSC in your Startale App smart account = 5 raffle tickets https://app.((startale.com))/
Meeting both criteria will earn you a maximum of 7 raffle tickets; each person can only register once, and raffle tickets do not guarantee a win. The raffle ends on November 7th, and winners will be announced on the 8th at @soneium.
In addition to the whitelist raffle, 50 users will be randomly selected to receive a guaranteed Startale Card!
Two other options are available:
• IP Vault: Similar to a group-buying music copyright fund
• IP Bond: Lending money to entertainment companies and receiving fixed interest
I think the most interesting one is IP Vault. If you feel that investing directly in a single IP is too risky, Soneium has partnered with Partners Group, a top institution managing $186 billion in assets, to bring traditional mega-copyright funds onto the blockchain, integrating them into IP Vault—essentially a vault for IP revenue!
Through the ecosystem's exclusive stablecoin, ipUSD, users can directly deposit funds into IP Vault and participate in profit sharing across 100,000+ real copyrights globally, including The Weeknd's music copyrights and Discovery's program content library, with an annualized expected return of 7%–9%. With the newly launched Soneium Portal and Startale App (https://app.(((startale.com))/), whether you want to discover good projects, invest directly, or passively enjoy profit sharing from top-tier entertainment copyrights, you can do it all on a single mobile interface.
Their first round of subscriptions was completely sold out within two hours; we eagerly await their performance.
Secondly, what is SONEIUM for?
To build a large ecosystem, there must be an on-chain entertainment link connecting everyone. That's SONEIUM. It's not just another token hyped up out of thin air; it's the "lifeblood" of the entire Soneium on-chain entertainment ecosystem.
• Creators use it to raise funds for new works.
• IP owners use it for global licensing.
• Developers use it to build tools and create games.
• Fans use it to support works and receive revenue.
As Soneium CEO @WatanabeSota said, "The starting point of the entertainment industry is always the creator." When a platform organically binds the livelihood of creators, the passion of fans, and the returns of capital together through token economics, it's no longer a cold, impersonal on-chain protocol, but a truly warm cultural ecosystem.
Finally, some of my thoughts: In the past, topping up idols and IPs was basically a one-way, bottomless pit. If this model truly works, fans will transform from mere consumers into active participants. This direction is undoubtedly a boon for anime and manga fans, and for me, it's incredibly significant!
I'm eagerly anticipating the later stages of the project, especially the progress and status of IP tokenization. Whether good IPs can be continuously acquired, whether revenue distribution is truly transparent, and the actual demand and consumption of the tokens are all worth continuous monitoring. New tokens are volatile; don't rush in blindly. Start with a small position and observe. DYOR
