Binance 10.30 Security Incident Investigation Report Binance's $6.3 Billion Security Incident Investigation Released! Hackers Started Their Plans with a Fake Job Interview! After Binance released its preliminary investigation report on the 10.30 security incident, I discovered that the most terrifying aspect of this attack wasn't the advanced techniques the hackers used. It was that they spent months painstakingly gaining access to internal systems step by step. The entire process was quite outrageous. June: A wallet operations engineer downloaded a modified developer tools installer. September: Hackers posed as recruiters, inviting another engineer to a video interview, then tricking them into downloading malicious code under the guise of a technical test. October 20: Attackers used infected devices and internal AI tools to further gain access to other employees and systems. October 29: Attackers entered the wallet signing process and launched a large-scale asset transfer. Ultimately, approximately $6.34 billion in digital assets were involved, of which about $2.85 billion has been frozen or intercepted. Binance stated that 98% of the affected token assets have been recovered, with the platform bearing the losses. Seeing this, I feel this incident serves as a wake-up call for the entire industry. Even the most complex security systems can be breached if employee devices, development tools, and internal permissions are compromised layer by layer. Especially now that AI programming tools are becoming increasingly widespread, attackers could easily hide malicious code within seemingly normal software installation packages and development projects. This incident also illustrates that AI tools themselves are not inherently security risks, but if there are weaknesses in access control, they can become a springboard for further infiltration by attackers. My view is: Binance's ability to absorb the losses and replenish user assets is a positive sign; however, truly restoring trust depends on an independent investigation and subsequent security improvements. This incident is bearish for the crypto industry in the short term, but it will also prompt exchanges to re-examine the security of their internal systems.
