Attention! Bitcoin miners are collectively turning against their former allies, selling off BTC and investing in AI data centers. US-based miner Riot Platforms sold 10,599 BTC in the third quarter, cutting its holdings by nearly 80%, pouring all the proceeds into AI data centers. Why? Because renting electricity to AI data centers can earn them $1.8 billion a year, far more lucrative than the arduous task of mining Bitcoin. Miners, once the most steadfast bulls in the crypto world, have now become the most ruthless sellers. What does this mean for BTC? Miners were once the most steadfast holders in the market. Now, they have become continuous, structurally driven sellers. It's not that they're bearish on Bitcoin; it's that AI data centers need money, and Bitcoin is the easiest asset for them to liquidate. Ironically, miners are fleeing Bitcoin and jumping into AI, only to find that AI's volatility is even greater than Bitcoin's. The index of mining companies transitioning to AI has fallen 23% this year, with CoreWeave down 25%. Keel's CEO stated, "We thought leaving Bitcoin would provide a more stable market, but we found this market is even more volatile than Bitcoin." Miners have been left empty-handed. But for Bitcoin, the damage has already been done. Miners are no longer the group that "holds on to the bitter end"; they now have a more pressing use than hoarding coins: paying electricity bills for AI data centers. At the 80,000 level, not only will the market have to withstand outflows from ETFs, but it will also have to absorb the tokens dumped by miners. The bottom of the bull market may require repeated fluctuations.
