[Malaysian Police Dismantle Scam Ring Involving Fake Crypto Trading Platforms, Arresting 13 Foreign Suspects]
BlockBeats reported on November 5th that Malacca police raided a residence in Kota Shahbandar yesterday, arresting 13 foreign suspects and dismantling an online scam ring involved in "pig butchering" scams and fake cryptocurrency trading platforms.
Malacca Central Police Chief Halim Abas stated that the gang used apps such as Telegram, QQ, and Soul to lure Chinese victims with sweet talk, demanding they transfer money to supposedly high-return cryptocurrency transactions. Preliminary investigations indicate that members entered Malaysia between February and September last year on tourist visas from the Philippines, Taiwan, Laos, and China, and began operating in the area approximately three months ago. Police seized 12 laptops, 1 desktop computer, 26 mobile phones, and a router, estimated to be worth approximately RM50,000. The suspect has been remanded in custody until November 8 to assist with the investigation. The total losses suffered by the victims are still being verified. [Original Link]
