[Malaysian Police Dismantle Scam Ring, Arrest 13 Foreign Suspects] Odaily reports that Malacca police raided a residence in Kota Shahbandar yesterday, arresting 13 foreign suspects and dismantling a scam ring involved in "pig butchering" scams and fake cryptocurrency trading platforms. Malacca Central Police Chief Halim Abas stated that the gang lured Chinese victims using apps such as Telegram, QQ, and Soul, demanding they transfer money to so-called high-return cryptocurrency exchanges. Preliminary investigations indicate that gang members entered the country on tourist visas from the Philippines, Taiwan, Laos, and China between February and September last year, and began operating in the area approximately three months ago. Police seized 12 laptops, 1 desktop computer, 26 mobile phones, and 1 router, estimated to be worth approximately RM50,000. The suspects have been remanded until November 8th to assist with further investigation; the total losses suffered by the victims are still being verified.
