[Meta Decides to Stop Naming AI Models After Fruits] According to Beating AI, sources familiar with the matter revealed that Meta has internally decided to stop naming its AI models after fruits. This move is primarily due to brand considerations, as the company believes fruit codenames don't align with its ambitious AI aspirations. Meta's latest AI model, Wonder Full, is internally codenamed "Watermelon," and the company calls it its first cutting-edge model, having previously teased its release with a watermelon photo. Previously, its language and image models were codenamed "Avocado" and "Mango," respectively. Meta declined to comment. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and AI head Alexandr Wang joked on a podcast last month that they had run out of fruit names and needed to change their naming conventions. Wang also said that the only fruit left that comes to mind in terms of size is probably durian, "You wouldn't want to use durian." The report also mentioned that the industry is shifting from food codenames to more imposing names, such as Anthropic's Mythos and OpenAI's Astra.
