The AI world is buzzing with news today: Cat Wu, former product lead for Claude Code at Anthropic, has officially joined OpenAI. She just left Anthropic last Friday, and today she announced her move: to lead product management for OpenAI's core product lines. This line oversees ChatGPT, APIs, and Codex, Claude Code's direct competitor. Claude Code is Anthropic's AI programming tool; programmers give instructions, and it automatically reads and modifies the code. OpenAI has never lacked good models; what it lacked was making those models into user-friendly tools. For the past year, Claude Code has stolen the spotlight in this area. So this move is even more direct than releasing another new model: the best product manager from their competitor is now on their side. What's even more disheartening is the timing. Anthropic just filed its IPO prospectus, and within two weeks, three members of the Claude Code team have left; she is the third. She said she wanted to create an intelligent agent that helps people do tasks, but retains control in the hands of the users. If you changed the logo and put that statement back at the Anthropic launch event, it wouldn't seem wrong at all.
