BREAKING: 🇭🇰 Hong Kong passes law requiring crypto firms to track and report customer transactions to tax authorities from 2027. Key details: Covers crypto purchases, sales, token swaps and transfers to external wallets. Exchanges must collect customer identities, residential addresses, tax residency details and Taxpayer Identification Numbers (TINs). Transaction data, including crypto quantities, transaction counts and gross values, must be reported to tax authorities. Hong Kong will begin automatically sharing this information with participating foreign tax authorities from 2028. The law follows the OECD's Crypto-Asset Reporting Framework (CARF), aimed at improving tax transparency and combating cross-border tax evasion.
