Cat Wu, an American of Chinese descent who announced his departure from his position as product manager at Claude Code on November 3rd, joined competitor OpenAI to lead its core products in just about 27 hours. The reason behind this is that in California, where both companies are based, long-standing local regulations stipulate that non-compete agreements restricting employees from working for a company after leaving are invalid. This is incredibly flawed.
