After donating nearly $500 million to the election and both houses turning blue, Musk quietly deleted a tweet campaigning for the Republicans. Following the results of the US midterm elections, Musk deleted his "Vote red today!" post from Election Day (November 3rd). The post had approximately 12 million views before being deleted. Ultimately, the Democrats won both the House and Senate. Musk was one of the biggest donors in this midterm election. According to the New York Times, he donated at least $474 million this cycle, the largest donation by a non-candidate in a single election cycle. Of this, approximately $168 million was almost entirely used to support Texas Republican Ken Paxton's Senate campaign. However, Paxton ultimately lost to Democrat James Talarico. After the results were announced, Musk posted a self-deprecating message: "Looks like my space laser for interfering in the election didn't work this time."
