I'd heard BinancePay was doing incredibly well in Vietnam 越南, but I always thought it was similar to my experience in Bhutan, just with a wider range of stores.
Yesterday, while out and about, I made a surprising discovery: BinancePay can directly send USDT to Vietnamese individuals, and the recipient's bank account immediately receives Vietnamese Dong!
What's that like? Imagine using Binance to scan your Alipay QR code and transfer USDT to you, and you receive RMB.
This is a transfer, not a purchase; it's practically a direct USDT fiat currency withdrawal! This is much more sophisticated than supporting merchant transactions, saving you the hassle of an OTC platform .
Is Vietnam so tolerant of cryptocurrencies? Or is Binance's supplier in Vietnam just that good?
Most people with Vietnamese bank accounts can generate VietQR codes for receiving payments; their adoption rate is similar to that of Alipay in China. This significantly expands the possibilities for crypto payments.
In the past, when I used encrypted payments in other countries, the biggest limitation was the number of merchants covered by local suppliers. Many small shops didn't even support Visa, let alone U-cards (like in Bhutan).
But in Vietnam, even individuals can directly accept U-cards. This essentially covers the most inaccessible commercial strata, such as individual merchants and street vendors. It feels like I can now basically live in Vietnam using only USDT and no cash.
Awesome Plus!
