[Developer: 80% Probability of Next Bitcoin Soft Fork Being BIP-54] According to a report by Decrypt on November 5th, Bitcoin developer Matt Corallo stated on the MARA Foundation TV program that he estimates there is an 80% probability that the next soft fork of the Bitcoin network will be "Big Consensus Cleanup" (BIP-54). This proposal, put forward in 2019, aims to fix four long-standing vulnerabilities in Bitcoin's consensus rules, including flaws in the difficulty adjustment mechanism and denial-of-service attack vectors between miners. Corallo stated that BIP-54 fixes "issues that everyone agrees on," and also provides a practical exercise for developers who haven't yet experienced a soft fork. LayerTwo Labs co-founder Paul Sztorc described the upgrade on X as a "clean maintenance fork that does nothing." According to his survey of developers on TABconf, most expect the soft fork to activate as early as September 2027, with more pointing to 2028 or later.
