[OpenAI Automated Vulnerability Research Pipeline Discovers 1724 Linux Kernel Vulnerabilities] According to Jinse Finance, on November 5th, OpenAI's automated vulnerability research pipeline identified 2308 candidate samples of Linux kernel vulnerabilities. Through dynamic reproduction, 1724 vulnerabilities were confirmed, and 948 local privilege escalation (LPE) exploits were generated. These vulnerabilities allow unauthorized users to gain root privileges. The pipeline consists of five stages: vulnerability discovery, dynamic verification, exploitability assessment, patch generation, and manual review. The entire second scan cost approximately $1.21 million in API points, yielding 948 unique local privilege escalation vulnerabilities. Based on vulnerability bounty standards, the value of these 948 exploits ranges from $18.9 million to $66.3 million, 16 to 55 times the pipeline cost. The agent used 10 new exploit techniques, which have been verified as novel methods by third-party kernel vulnerability experts. OpenAI is currently submitting vulnerability information and corresponding patches to Linux kernel maintainers.
