The security threats faced by crypto institutions are far greater than those faced by traditional fiat currency financial institutions. The comparison is not very meaningful.
Even if a traditional bank is breached, hackers must overcome layers of hurdles, including bank clearing, anti-money laundering measures, and receiving accounts. Large cash withdrawals and cross-border transportation are equally difficult.
Once BTC and ETH are transferred to a hacker-controlled wallet, there is no institution that can directly freeze them. Even if money laundering and conversion are temporarily impossible, hackers can hold onto the stolen funds indefinitely.
So what's the point of crypto? I saw a quote the other day that made some sense: one protects against organized crime, the other against legitimate crime.
