The North Korean hacking group Lazarus has stolen approximately $11.87 billion in crypto assets, equivalent to 45% of North Korea's GDP.
This year, North Korean-related hacking attacks account for nearly 90% of all reported crypto thefts. Their most common method is not brute-force attacks, but rather infiltrating companies by posing as job seekers or recruiters. The recent theft of over $6 billion from Binance began with an engineer participating in a fake high-paying job interview.
Now, AI is also becoming an accomplice. Microsoft has discovered that three North Korean hacking groups are using AI for resume forgery, phishing content, and malware development.
