[French Bank Fortuneo Suspected of Cross-Border Fund Transfer Attack, $133 Million Flows to Cryptocurrency Exchanges] According to a report by DeepFlow TechFlow on November 4th, French journalist Grégory Raymond exclusively revealed that Fortuneo, the online bank under the French Crédit Mutuel Arkéa Group, is suspected of being a victim of large-scale fund transfer fraud. Attackers allegedly initiated cross-border transfers by forging recipient information and opened accounts on cryptocurrency exchanges such as Kraken using fake identities. After passing KYC verification, they received funds and then converted fiat currency into stablecoins before transferring them out. On-chain tracking shows that between November 1st and 2nd, approximately $63 million worth of stablecoins were exchanged for 27,553 ETH through UniswapX, and subsequently transferred via cross-chain bridges and instant exchange services. Some of the funds were converted into the privacy coin Monero (XMR). ZachXBT previously estimated the amount involved to be over $133 million, but sources cited by reporters indicate that the actual losses could be higher if non-blockchain fund transfers and OTC transactions are included. The report also noted that Kraken reportedly began freezing the funds Monday through Tuesday night, after which the criminal network moved to other platforms. Regarding the modus operandi, sources suggested two possibilities: a breach of the bank's payment system, or internal staff being targeted by fraudsters impersonating executives. Currently, the attacker's identity, the actual amount of loss, the ownership of the funds, and whether the bank still faces security risks have not been confirmed. Crédit Mutuel Arkéa has not publicly responded. Previously reported, blockchain detective ZachXBT updated its investigation, stating that the EU financial institution that suffered over $133 million in losses is allegedly the French bank Crédit Mutuel Arkéa, with assets totaling $235 billion.
