Barring unforeseen circumstances, Scroll will become the next top-tier L2 blockchain to shut down. Scroll's official DAO forum has released a new proposal: to move from the permissionless, general-purpose L2 public chain Pivot to a permissioned, dedicated network focused on private AI, and to migrate SCR to the Ethereum mainnet. In simpler terms, maintaining a ZK Rollup L2 chain is too costly for the team. Shutting it down directly risks backlash, so they're transitioning to a private chain to reduce costs during the transition period. According to data from @growthepie_eth, Scroll's daily on-chain net profit is around tens of dollars; on-chain costs mainly include the costs of proof generation, L1 data publication, and verification, but do not include off-chain operational costs. Adding off-chain costs, Scroll is undoubtedly operating at a loss.
