[ZachXBT Accuses French Bank Crédit Mutuel Arkéa of $133 Million Crypto Asset Theft] According to a report by Cryptopolitan on November 4th, blockchain investigator ZachXBT has accused the French banking group Crédit Mutuel Arkéa of being responsible for the recent theft of $133 million in crypto assets. On November 2nd, it was discovered that $106 million had abnormally flowed out of multiple centralized exchange accounts belonging to the institution. The funds were withdrawn in USDC and USDT, some of which were flash-converted to ETH, and others to Monero. A second round of withdrawals totaled $27 million, mostly through the Kraken hot wallet.
The bank has total assets exceeding $235 billion and provides white-label banking services to fintech companies, including Stripe. It has not publicly responded to the incident.
ZachXBT claims that over $30 million has already been laundered and speculates that this was a case of a large Western European financial institution being hacked and concealed, with the money laundering methods inconsistent with Lazarus's practices.
