[US Stocks Rebound Leads to Short Covering: A Major Whale Loses $17 Million in Short Positions]
According to BlockBeats, on November 4th, a major whale opened five short positions during the morning's decline in US stock contracts. These positions were subsequently covered during the afternoon rebound, totaling approximately $17.33 million, resulting in a loss of approximately $220,000.
These short positions were established after the decline began. When the whale started shorting SpaceX and Tesla this morning, the two contracts had already fallen by approximately 3.6% and 2.7%, respectively. It subsequently added to its short positions and opened new short positions in Amazon, Microsoft, and Meta.
The whale's final average opening prices for SpaceX and Tesla were $133.13 and $381.15, respectively, only about 1.1% and 0.7% higher than the morning's lowest prices. The Tesla short position was opened precisely at the minute of the morning's lowest price.
As the market rebounded in the afternoon, the whale covered its short positions in SpaceX and Tesla at average prices of $135.08 and $384.22 respectively, incurring losses of approximately $108,800 and $48,300. Its short positions in Amazon, Microsoft, and Meta also incurred losses of approximately $24,700, $21,400, and $16,800 respectively.
