[Nvidia's $70 Billion Graphics Card Orders Pile Up, Chinese Customers Expected to Receive Only 1% in Four Months] Beating AI News: Chinese tech giants including Alibaba, Tencent, and ByteDance have collectively ordered approximately 6 million Nvidia RTX PRO 5500 graphics cards, worth about $70 billion. However, due to production capacity constraints, they are expected to receive only tens of thousands of units in the next four months, representing about 1% of the total order.
This order was first revealed in October. At that time, Nvidia estimated it could only meet 5%–10% of the demand. Now, the short-term delivery situation is even more dire: only a few thousand units may arrive by the end of 2026, with tens of thousands more to be delivered in February next year.
The RTX PRO 5500 was originally a workstation graphics card equipped with 84GB of video memory, with performance inferior to data center GPUs like the H200 and B300. However, due to US export controls, Chinese companies have had to settle for this card and place large orders.
Unfortunately, Nvidia is prioritizing TSMC's capacity for the more profitable next-generation Rubin chips. Global production of the RTX PRO 5500 next year may be less than 3 million units, not even half of the orders from China.
Some Chinese customers estimate that by the end of 2027, they may have received approximately 700,000 units, representing only 12% of their total orders. [Original Link]
