What impact will the Republican loss of the House have on Trump over the next two years?
With the Republicans losing the House, Trump will need to negotiate with Democrats to push through new legislation over the next two years. Policies requiring congressional legislation, such as tax cuts, fiscal spending, and cryptocurrency regulation, will face increased difficulty in advancing.
The government budget and debt ceiling remain the most crucial focus for the market.
Democrats can use appropriations negotiations to demand adjustments to government spending plans. If the two parties fail to reach an agreement for an extended period, it could trigger a government shutdown or a debt ceiling dispute, impacting US Treasury bonds, the dollar, and risk assets.
PS: As discussed with friends before, even with intense negotiations, the probability of a debt default remains extremely low.
Furthermore, with Democrats controlling House committees, they can hold hearings. Regardless of whether it leads to impeachment, Democrats may launch more investigations into Trump administration policies, the actions of government officials, and potential conflicts of interest involving Trump and his family.
Of course, Trump can still sign executive orders within the limits of existing law to continue pushing forward some policies through government departments. However, passing new legislation in the future will not be as easy as it was in the previous two years.
