Even the highest level of security on an iPhone couldn't withstand a simple PDF. A video showing an iPhone 18 Pro, running iOS version lower than 27.2, with Locked Mode enabled, was compromised simply by sending a PDF via AirDrop. The intrusion was persistent; upgrading to the latest iOS version did not remove the malware. Locked Mode, introduced by Apple in 2022, wasn't intended for everyday use. It's designed to protect journalists and activists—those potentially targeted by spyware. Enabling Locked Mode disables many message attachments and web browsing features, significantly reducing usability. Those willing to tolerate this inconvenience seek peace of mind: with the phone so heavily restricted, surely it can't be hacked. But a single PDF was enough. For those who keep their wallets on their phones, the worst part is this: even after upgrading to the latest version, the malware remains. Normally, when a phone vulnerabilities are discovered, the solution is to immediately update the system. The attack power is still there after the upgrade.
