1️⃣ Binance released its preliminary technical investigation report on the major security incident that occurred on October 29th on November 3rd.
The attack used methods such as malware downloads and fake job postings to gradually infiltrate internal AI tools and wallet signature services. The process was as follows:
① June: Malware Download. A wallet infrastructure engineer installed a tampered Homebrew installer. Although the platform detected the anomaly and replaced the device and credentials, the attackers had already obtained the relevant job information.
② September: Fake Job Posting. Another engineer, after a video interview, downloaded a so-called programming assignment containing malicious code.
③ October 20th: Lateral Attack. The attackers used infected devices and internal AI tools to access the systems of other wallet developers and gain deployment privileges.
④ October 29th: Unauthorized Signature Transfer. The attackers bypassed the normal withdrawal process and initiated unauthorized on-chain transactions through the compromised internal wallet signature service.
2️⃣ Binance stated that 98% of the affected tokens have been replenished.
3️⃣ BTC and ETH have both seen significant net outflows in the last five full trading days. ETF funds remain a negative indicator of cautious sentiment.
