[CNN Preliminary Poll: About One-Fifth of Former Trump Supporters Disapprove of His Performance] According to preliminary national results from a CNN voter poll released on November 4th, voters are generally dissatisfied with the current state of the nation, the economy, and President Donald Trump's performance. About three-quarters of voters nationwide said they are dissatisfied or worse with the direction the country is heading, with about 40% even saying they are "angry." The preliminary results show two factors driving this dissatisfaction: negative perceptions of Trump and dissatisfaction with the current economic situation. How these factors will specifically play out remains to be seen—especially in some Republican-majority states where unexpectedly close Senate races have emerged. About 60% of voters nationwide disapprove of Trump's performance, with about half expressing strong disapproval. Of those who supported Trump in 2024, about one-fifth now disapprove. The percentage of voters who said inflation is causing them difficulties is roughly the same as in 2024. But this time, many voters are directly blaming Trump. About two-thirds of voters believe he has worsened the U.S. economy, with most attributing rising prices directly to his policies rather than factors beyond his control. Most voters doubt whether Trump has the right priorities and believe he prioritizes personal interests over national interests. Although the president urged his base to vote as he does on the ballot, less than one-fifth of voters said they voted for Trump in the House, while the remainder said they voted against Trump or that Trump was not a deciding factor. About three-quarters of voters said the economy was bad, and about 90% said the cost of living was a "key" or primary factor in their voting decision.
