Bybit CEO: Exchanges Must Assume Hackers Will Launch Attacks (Historical Video) On April 21, 2026, Bybit co-founder and CEO Ben Zhou (@benbybit) reviewed the theft incident in an interview with The Block (@TheBlockCo). He stated that one of the biggest shifts in thinking was from "how to prevent attacks from happening" to "assuming an attack will happen, how to minimize losses, and ensure the company doesn't collapse as a result." He also mentioned that Bybit previously relied on third-party cold wallets and has now built a bank-grade hardware wallet system that requires in-person unlocking of HSMs. However, such systems are time-consuming and costly, and most projects still rely on third parties. He stated that in addition to focusing on technical security, companies should also pay attention to social engineering attacks and build multi-layered protection based on the assumption that attacks will occur.
