How hackers pulled off the $6.3B Binance heist, per Binance’s own report:
June: A wallet dev downloads a tampered tool, promoted via a search ad above the real one. Binance catches it, but the wallet team stays exposed.
September: A second engineer, job hunting, “interviews” with a fake company’s CEO and downloads a malicious code repo.
Oct 20: Attackers use that machine plus an internal AI tool to take over two wallet devs’ systems.
Oct 29: Using stolen credentials, they trigger the script. 233M XRP leaves five hot wallets in 4 minutes. Final transfer lands almost 4 hours later.
FBI blames North Korea. Pyongyang denies it.
Fake job interviews are an old trick. This one worked on the biggest exchange in crypto.
