LLMs had the entire internet to learn from. Robots have no equivalent. Nobody is recording data like the pressure in their fingertips when they pick up a coffee cup.
Tutor Intelligence is building that dataset. Its robots work real shifts in factories and warehouses across 20 US states, from mom-and-pop shops to Fortune 50 companies, and have helped make and ship more than 250 million products.
Tutor hires out robots by the hour. When one gets stuck, a remote human "tutor" takes over and guides it through the task, and that becomes training data that makes the whole fleet smarter. (Hence the name.)
The 160-person team trains its own robot models, builds its own robots, and ships code to them every day. The fleet has grown 4x since last year, and Tutor just raised a $75M Series B led by a16z.
Co-founder and CEO Josh Gruenstein:
"I think it's one of the only places in the universe where you can be on a whiteboard talking about model architecture in the morning, and in the afternoon, looking at a factory line."
