I heard that Binance was hacked because an operations and maintenance (O&M) staff member applied for a job and was phished; the scammer sent them a job assignment containing a virus. As the world's largest exchange, I can't say Binance is a shoddy operation, but this incident clearly shows Binance's disregard for its technical staff. They seem to think that finding capable people is easy. For exchanges, O&M staff are crucial, often unsung heroes. However, bosses who lack technical knowledge often think O&M has little work, that good performance is expected, and that they're the scapegoats for problems. They also believe it's not technically challenging, even less important than business development (BD) roles. They'd rather lavishly reward BD and KOLs than improve the compensation of O&M staff. The fact that O&M staff can even look for other jobs speaks volumes about the treatment they receive! Furthermore, their work computers are company-issued custom-built machines, and work and personal computers must be separate—Binance's upper management doesn't seem to care about this. One O&M staff member had to be laid off due to business restructuring. I let him do nothing at the company, paid full salary, full performance bonuses, and a high salary for over a year, and gave him extraordinary compensation. In the end, I only asked him one question: Are you satisfied? If you have any complaints, be sure to tell me. Now, this former operations engineer and I are still friends.
