[Google to Adjust School AI Settings Next Year; Complete Disabling Will Disable Search] According to a TechCrunch report on November 4th, Google plans to disable AI tools for K-12 students by default starting next year, unless school administrators actively enable them. The adjustment affects Gemini, NotebookLM, Gemini in Classroom, and Google Search.
Because search integrates AI functionality, students in schools that choose to completely restrict AI will not be able to use Google Search and will see a message from their school indicating that the service is unavailable. Google stated that it will release more details to schools in the coming months to prepare for the adjustment.
