[Gasoline and Diesel Prices Break US Election Day Records] BlockBeats reports that on November 3rd, gasoline prices, a key indicator of the cost of living for many Americans, reached a record high on Election Day this year. Although retail prices at gas stations have declined somewhat in recent days and weeks, data from the American Automobile Association (AAA) shows that as of Tuesday, the average price of regular gasoline across the US remained at $4.15 per gallon. CNN's analysis of AAA data since 2000 reveals this to be the highest gasoline price on record for an Election Day in the US, far exceeding the previous record of $3.80 per gallon set in 2022. At that time, US inflation reached its highest level in 40 years during then-President Biden's term. During his 2024 campaign, Trump fiercely criticized Biden's record-breaking gasoline prices and pledged to reduce them to below $2 per gallon. However, the reality is that, largely influenced by President Trump's decision to go to war with Iran, gasoline prices are currently more than $1 higher per gallon than they were on Election Day in 2024. At that time, the national average gasoline price was only $3.10 per gallon. Furthermore, the average gasoline price during Trump's second term was $3.481 per gallon, higher than the $3.471 per gallon during Biden's term. However, when inflation is taken into account, gasoline prices don't appear that high. Adjusted for inflation, the national average gasoline price on Election Day in 2012 exceeded $5 per gallon.
