Binance has just released the detailed social engineering process behind its North Korean hacking attack.
The attack's successful entry point was a current employee lured by a high-paying job offer. Using their work computer, they remotely participated in an interview conducted by North Korean hackers, downloaded "homework," and successfully became a "zombie" (botnet).
Previously, @zachxbt and others had been exposing North Korean hackers' attempts to infiltrate projects through job applications. This fake company recruitment is an upgraded version of the scam; they probably didn't expect to reel in such a large fish.
Binance's willingness to quickly and clearly disclose the attack process is commendable.
It just goes to show how the devil is always one step ahead; this magical world is truly something else.
