Now that it's winter time, the US stock market opening time has changed from 9:30 PM to 10:30 PM.
Watching US stocks tonight feels like going back to the crypto world and looking at earnings reports. Apple's results exceeded expectations, yet it's still being sold off. Palantir even raised its guidance, but the market is still dissatisfied. Shopify fared even worse, dropping double digits pre-market.
I used to think that if a company made money, shareholders could at least get a share. After paying tuition for several years, I've realized the market still asks, "Is that all? What's next?"
Apple and memory stocks. Apple says memory price increases are squeezing profits, but memory stocks are rebounding pre-market. The same amount of money hurts downstream companies, while upstream companies think there's still room for negotiation. Those holding semiconductor stocks must be feeling a bit conflicted.
MRVL (MarvellTech), which I follow, is also in a similar situation. They acquired Lumentum (Lumentum) hoping to tell a bigger story, but the market hammered them yesterday, and only today did funds return to support them pre-market. No matter how good the direction is, shareholders still have to consider the costs of acquisition and equity dilution.
Now we're just waiting for AMD to deliver. Apple and Palantir have already set an example; simply exceeding expectations might not be enough. We need to see if subsequent demand and guidance can keep people willing to spend money.
