Holy crap, the world is spiraling out of control like never before: Over NT$40 million has been stolen from E.Sun Bank in Taiwan!
419 customers were affected, with 427 unusual transfers, each approximately NT$100,000, totaling over NT$40 million.
All the funds were transferred to the same account at Fubon Bank in Taipei, Taiwan.
Victims stated that they did not open the banking app or make any transfers, yet some transaction records showed facial recognition verification. Some even had no designated accounts set up, yet funds were still transferred out.
This is no longer a simple case of forgotten passwords or infected phones. What went wrong with the bank's identity verification, transaction authorization, and risk control systems?
E.Sun Bank claims the incident stemmed from a program malfunction in its new online banking system, has suspended related services, and has fully refunded victims.
Fubon Bank has frozen the receiving account, and the police are still investigating, having not yet confirmed whether an external hacking attack was involved.
The most ironic thing is that we've always thought banks were the safest place for our money. One day, before you even opened the app, the bank system transferred your money away for you.
