everyone is talking about how a democratic sweep could be bearish for stocks
but the historical numbers are actually pretty interes
since 1954, there have been 7 occasions when a republican president ended up with a democratic congress
the s&p 500 was higher 12 months later in all 7 cases
average return: +15.5%
jpmorgan sees a blue wave as one of the weakest short-term outcomes for stocks, with an estimated impact between -0.25% and +0.50%
obviously, history doesn’t guarantee anything
but maybe political gridlock isn’t always the disaster people expect
sometimes markets just want washington to stop changing the rules
