[Santiment: Binance ETH Supply Decreased in Two Phases Following Security Attack, Only the First Phase Coincides with Hacker Withdrawals]
BlockBeats reported on November 3rd that Santiment stated that since the Binance hack, the exchange's ETH supply has decreased in two phases, but only one phase coincides with the timing of the hacker's fund transfers. Data shows that as of the close of trading on October 28th, the exchange held 3.56% of the total ETH supply; by the close of trading on November 2nd, this proportion had dropped to 3.20%. More than half of the decrease occurred on October 29th, the day of the Binance hack.
TRM Labs data shows that approximately 200,630 ETH were transferred from Binance's hot wallet on October 29th. However, the amount of ETH held by major exchange addresses did not decrease on October 29th; in fact, it increased by approximately 39,000 ETH. Subsequently, from November 1st to November 2nd, as platforms reopened withdrawals, the holdings of these addresses decreased by approximately 313,000 ETH.
From the close of trading on October 28th to November 2nd, the cumulative decrease in ETH held by major exchange addresses was approximately 297,000 ETH, a drop of about 5.4%. Santiment stated that based solely on exchange data, it is currently impossible to determine where this ETH ultimately went, or whether it was transferred to cold wallets or other exchanges.
