📉 Gold prices have fallen 30% from their January peak, now trading near $3,900. Yet institutional demand remained strong in Q3. Could gold return to $5,000?
The World Gold Council’s latest Q3 report shows:
🔸 Gold ETFs added 211 tonnes, lifting total holdings to a record 4,256 tonnes.
🔸 Central banks purchased 321 tonnes, the fastest quarterly pace since Q4 2024.
🔸 China and Poland led reported central bank purchases, adding a combined 104 tonnes.
Why is gold still falling?
Geopolitical risks and reserve diversification continue to support gold demand. But inflation concerns, elevated Treasury yields and a strong dollar are weighing on prices.
A sustained recovery may depend less on central bank buying alone and more on whether US real yields and the dollar begin to fall.
