Kim Jong-un's sister denies North Korea's involvement in the Binance theft, blaming the US as the mastermind.
According to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), Kim Yo-jong, the younger sister of Kim Jong-un and a department head of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, issued a statement on November 2nd denying North Korea's involvement in the $6.3 billion Binance theft. Previously, on-chain analysis firms such as Chainalysis and TRM had identified the theft as being committed by the North Korean hacking group TraderTraitor, and the FBI had also pointed the finger at North Korea.
Kim Yo-jong called the US claims "absurd," noting that every instance of international cybercrime is blamed on North Korea, including the Bybit theft last year.
She also mentioned that the Trump administration, after taking office, announced the inclusion of confiscated crypto assets in the national strategic reserve, stating that once the ownership of the recovered stolen assets was determined, "perhaps clues could be found to the mastermind."
When asked about the matter on October 30th, Trump stated that it was not yet certain whether North Korea was responsible and that an investigation was underway.
