[North Korea Denies Connection to Bybit Hack Last Year, Hints at US Involvement]
According to BlockBeats, on November 3rd, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported that North Korea, in a statement denying any involvement in the Binance hack, also mentioned that last year, the US had also linked North Korea to the hack of the cryptocurrency exchange Bybit. The US's misleading of international opinion, creating the illusion that all online scams around the world are the work of North Korea, is a serious political provocation against North Korea. North Korea firmly opposes any attempt to politicize cyber issues as a means of interfering in the internal affairs of other countries, which is a consistent policy stance of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
The international community should revisit the fact that last year, the current US administration announced the confiscation of illegally stolen cryptocurrency assets as part of its national strategic reserves. Considering who would possess the huge amount of stolen cryptocurrency funds if they were recovered, perhaps clues can be found regarding the hack.
On February 21, 2025, Bybit suffered a massive hack, with a total value of approximately $1.5 billion. The US FBI and several on-chain analysis agencies subsequently attributed the incident to North Korea's Lazarus Group (TraderTraitor).
