According to Mexican media outlet Publimetro, Mexico City lawmaker Alberto Martínez Urincho has proposed an amendment to the Federal Criminal Code, suggesting that those illegally using electricity for cryptocurrency mining could face 5 to 12 years in prison, a fine equivalent to 1,000 to 3,000 units of daily metering and renewal (UMA), and confiscation of the equipment involved. In cases involving aggravated offenses such as unauthorized connection to medium- or high-voltage power lines, serious interference with power supply, or covert operation of data centers, the maximum sentence could be increased to 18 years. The proposal aims to combat the use of illegal power connections for cryptocurrency mining and large-scale data processing, rather than banning legal mining. The proposal has not yet been approved and still needs to be reviewed by the Mexico City Council and federal legislative processes. https://wublock123.com/news/mexico-city-council-proposes-upto-18-year-jail-illegal-power-mining-71208
