According to Bloomberg, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois issued a preliminary injunction on October 30, prohibiting the state from imposing new taxes and licensing requirements on prediction market operators regulated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). Judge Martha Pacold stated that since the taxes only apply to operators holding state licenses, and the court had previously preliminarily determined that the state's licensing requirements might be excluded by federal law, the taxes could not be enforced. In early October, the court had already preliminarily injuncted Illinois to enforce the licensing requirements at the request of Kalshi, Coinbase, and the CFTC, but had not yet ruled on the tax issue at that time. Illinois has appealed the latest injunction. This injunction is a temporary judicial relief and not a final ruling on the state's right to tax. https://wublock123.com/news/federal-judge-blocks-illinois-prediction-market-tax-appeal-71193
